Last year
The first
Extravanganza was held in 2007 and several hundred people
attended. Fun was had by all--except perhaps the live bunnies, who
thought the band was much too loud (there is no band this year). There
are several
pictures in our archive too!
To Volunteer
Last year several
hundred people attended, and we hope to have even
more this year. So we need your help in running the activities, as well
as setting up and cleaning up. Sue Headley is coordinating the event
again, so contact her if there is some way you'd like to help out.
Also, we will be selling (cheap) t-shirts for the event; please see Erik Larson to
reserve yours today!

Notes
"Eggtravaganza!"
It's hard to believe that
Easter is almost here! Just as Advent started late (December 2) in
2007, so Lent started early (February 6) in 2008. That means that
this Sunday, March 16, is Palm Sunday! In past
years,
we have scheduled a large choral work on that date. This year, that
was not possible. But we will be presenting a gorgeous choral work
(with a powerful organ accompaniment) on Maundy Thursday, March 20.
And we will celebrate this week "in style" with two
notable events: The Easter "Eggstravaganza" of Saturday,
March 14; and a lovely Palm Sunday Service on the following day.
The "Eggtravaganza"
begins at 2 p.m. this Saturday and continues until 5. As usual, we
will offer a wide variety of events: face-painting, music, Easter
Egg hunts, crafts, jumpers, and games. We'll have door prizes, once
again. And those who enter their names for a prize will be notified
of our VBS (and other child-friendly activities) this year. Please
be sure to bring your young children, grandchildren, and friends. And
if you don't have relatives attending from that age group, please
check with Erik Larson (310-833-6424) or Sue Headley (310-831-2015) to
see how you can help those who do.
The Palm Sunday Service
begins with a children's Palm Parade at 9:30 a.m. It continues with
celebrative songs and moves into a thoughtful sermon about the
meaning of Christ's last stirring, strange, and spectacular week.
Given the wide variety of Palm Trees in our state, the extravagant
decorations for this day are particularly fun to see. We hope you'll
bring your friends to enjoy them
Have a great week!
Neal

Fact of the Week
Q: Why does Palm Sunday move from
year to year?
(Scroll Down For Answer)
A: It moves because it, along with Easter Sunday, is
linked in with Jewish Passover. Passover always begins on Nisan the
14th on the Jewish calendar. This calendar, being lunar based, changes
to follow the lunar cycles for each year.
