a Pastor Neal's Notes ![]() A Family Of Faith
What a wonderful day we had yesterday! We heard good news during church and a delightful "Rockin' Diner" afterwards. Then, several of us "hit the road" for a 10 Kilometer "Crop" Walk to raise money for the hungry at home and abroad. This is such a great event, and we always have a wonderful turn-out from this church, even though some of us will be "feeling it" today. To quote the late Rosa Parks, "my feets is tired, but my soul is rested"! I hope your soul is rested at the start of this work week, and that you'll be sure to join us this Sunday for a message from Ephesians 1:3-14, one of the most beautiful references in all of Scripture to our "inheritance" as followers of Christ. If you read it carefully, you will find at least 10 benefits of faith that you may not have even thought about before. One benefit of attending this church is the opportunity to celebrate the special occasions of dear old families and friends. One of those families is Paul and Susan Galyean, whose daughter, Gerri Panebianco, will be baptizing her newborn son, Joseph Paul, this Sunday. Emily Anderson, who directs the cherub choir, is Gerri's very proud aunt, and the Smith clan is connected by marriage to this family, as well. But, in a larger sense, all of us are family--all of us are "kin." That's because we promise during baptism to help each baby's parents raise their children in "the nurture and admonition of the Lord." That means teaching Sunday School or Vacation Bible School and supporting youth fund-raisers in the church. It may also mean baby-sitting now and then, or just lending a patient ear whem mom or dad needs to speak. We are thrilled to celebrate this special day in Joseph Paul's life, and we're blessed every day of the year to be part of such a great family of faith. In addition to the 10 benefits that Paul mentions in Ephesians 1, I could probably mention 5 or 6 more just for First Pres! But I promise to keep it short. That's because we'll finish this day with the Sacrament of Communion and a brief congregational election after that. So, come rested (if you can) or tired (if you must) to celebrate this special day. However you come, I think you will depart with joy.

Please see a Crew member for tickets, or stop by after church from 10am to 3pm on May 4th. Contact: Crew Advisor Eric V. Beck ![]() Presbytery Urges Participation In Community On Sunday May 4th, 52 churches from Presbytery are urged to participate in local community events. First Pres. has the opportunity to do just this very thing at the Friendship Park Nature Extravaganza on that day. We have elected to run a craft booth at that event from 9am to 4pm and are in need of volunteers. Contact: Shirley Gonzales if you are interested. ![]() A new direction for ministry with Native Americans More Native Americans now live in cities and urban areas than on reservations and in rural areas, according to U.S. Census figures. Presbyterians are joining together to develop new ministries that meet the needs of this growing population. The
Native American
Congregational Enhancement
Office works in partnership with the Native American Consulting
Committee to make urban ministry with Native Americans a high priority.
Together they support leadership training, Bible study and other
projects such as a spiritual community being built in Albuquerque, New
Mexico, at La Mesa Presbyterian Church. ![]() To
