Neal's Notes "A Season of Thanksgiving and Praise"
Did you catch the
wonderful article about our church that appeared in the Daily Breeze?
The writer, Melissa Evans, did a very fine job of research,
collecting significant facts from our web site. She also did a very
nice job collecting quotes on "Turkey Basket Day." Then,
she wrote the article. Ignoring some very minor errors, it was a
fabulous tribute to 125 years of mission and ministry here at the
First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro. Moreover, they ran it on
Thanksgiving Day, front page, above the fold. You can't BUY any
better publicity than that! We are grateful to
Ms. Evans and her editors at the Breeze for recognizing our church on
that day. We are also grateful to the PV Peninsula News, which often
mentions our Thanksgiving Basket Project at this time of year, and to
Random Lengths, which ran a very thorough piece last year. Most of
all, we are grateful to Brent Howell, John Olguin, Dariel Johnson,
the Beacon House, and the dozens of volunteers who make this project
work. What a privilege it is for me to
work with them. Having begun this
wonderful
season with Thanksgiving for the work of these good folks, we now
continue our celebration with praise for the God who makes all these
things possible. During worship this Sunday, December 7, our "Gospel
Gang" chorus will present "The Backwards Christmas
Pageant," which invites us to refocus our attention on the
most important part of Christmas. At 4 p.m. next Sunday, December
14, we will hear the "Family Christmas Festival," a
delightful celebration of God's story as told by all 7 choirs of our
church. Then, on December 24, at 5 and 10 p.m., we'll return to the
manger for a Christmas Eve Service with all the classic carols
and few new twists thrown in. In
short, the Season of Advent between now and Christmas Day promises to
be a delightful celebration of God's goodness and God's grace.
Please join us! And
bring a friend.
