Welcoming the Light

Pastor Neal
by Rev. Neal Neuenchwander

Greetings from the Great State of Alaska! By the time you read these words, Kim and I will be safely back in San Pedro from our country's largest state. During our brief time there we saw caribou, moose, seals, bald eagles, beluga whales, and some grizzly bears. We didn't see much of Mount McKinley (the clouds were just too thick), but we did see several glaciers and countless channel islands along the way. We also saw some sled dogs race (pulling wagons, since snow was gone) and an Athabaskan Village, too. In all, it was a glorious trip, with several hours of extended touring made possible by the "midnight sun."

After completing this trip, it occurred to me that each of us has access to the "midnight sun," because each of us has access to the Word of God at every hour of the night and day. The Psalmist states that this word is "a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," so I'll be talking about that light in the week to come. This week, we'll spread that light not only on Sunday morning but also throughout the week, because we will be starting Vacation Bible school. This is such a fabulous part of our summer, and there are still a few slots left for volunteers. A great highlight of my summer is greeting all those children, and I can hardly wait to begin!

Another highlight of my summer has been listening to your comments about the life that you have found here at the First Church. We've been talking about that life in a number of "Zoe" parties, and you still have time to participate! You'll learn some fun new facts about the folks who worship with you, and you'll also find new reasons to thank God for His work right here. Just use the following link to register.

I'll see you on Sunday!
