It's
Time for Family Camp! By the time you read this article, several members of our church will already be en route to the Presbyterian Conference center on Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. Those who attend this weekend may look forward to beautiful scenery, inspiring worship, hearty meals, and warm fellowship with other members of our church. As in years past, they will probably make some new friends--or, at the very least, some new discoveries about old friends they have known through the years--and they will probably rekindle a greater sense of warmth for our God. That's why our church has scheduled this particular pilgrimage on the 3rd weekend of September almost every year for decades. Kim, Andrew, and I are looking forward to this weekend "out" with good church friends, and we wish that all of you could join us. But we certainly understand that it's hard for many church members to get away during this busy time of year, and we are grateful for all of you who "hold down the fort" at 8th and Averill while we are gone. If you are in San Pedro this weekend, please make a special effort to attend worship in order to support other visitors, members, volunteers, and staff. I also hope you'll bring a word of encouragement for Leonardo Wilborn, our guest preacher for this Sunday. Leonardo is the tall African-American fellow who has preached here several times in the past, and many of you have told me that you enjoy his content, creativity, and style. Perhaps you can say that to Leonardo too! In the mean time, I hope you have a fabulous weekend, and I look forward to seeing all of you next week. Neal Coming Events - All four volleyball teams have practice games on Saturday, October 1st. - The next Men's Breakfast is Saturday, October 22nd, at 8:30am - Contact Jim Peacock for further information on these events (310-702-6730). Women's Bible Study News This year the Women's Bible Study will be different! Each
meeting we will watch a short DVD clip featuring pastors and
Bible scholars discussing the book of Romans. Instead of
studying one book of the Bible for the whole year, we will spend
8 weeks on the book of Romans, beginning Monday, September 19 at
7:00pm or Wednesday September 21 at 1:00pm in the McCormick
Room. If you've been reluctant to join because of the length of
the commitment, this is your chance - just 8 weeks to learn
about what Martin Luther called "the most important book of the
Bible!" Please call Kim Neuenschwander at 310-831-6771 to
reserve a study guide (cost is $10.00) and/or sign up in the
McCormick Room after church in early September.
We look forward to you joining us this year!
