First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro: Christ for Life

HOME

The word most commonly used to describe Pastor Neal's preaching is "enthusiastic." Worship attenders enjoy his energy and his ability to bring new life to old, familiar Scripture texts. Pastor Neal loves to discover new insights about the Bible, but he also loves to use contemporary stories, and he works hard from week to week to bring the message "home." Recent sermon series have covered these topics:

Questions of Faith

This series covered a number of hot topics: Why is Jesus so much better than other religious leaders? What's so special about the Bible? From what do I need to be saved? Etc.

Rethinking "The Good Life"

This series looked at popular conceptions of scarcity, prosperity, oppportunity, and success using the Parables of Christ.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Proverbs

This series sampled several gems: "As the door turns on its hinges, so the sluggard turns in bed. . . He who gathers little by little makes it grow. . . Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; drop the matter before a dispute breaks out." etc.

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

In this "charismatic" era of church history, there is a lot of talk about the Holy Spirit: gifts of the Spirit, fruits of the Spirit, powers of the Spirit, and guidance of the Spirit. Who (or what) is this Holy Spirit? And how does the Spirit work in our world today?

Out to Pasture

This series covers several "sheep & shepherd" passages in the Bible, including very familiar texts (like Psalm 23) and very unfamiliar texts (Like Ezekiel 33). Given that sheep aren't very smart and shepherds are not usually sophisticated, why do these passages speak so powerfully into our lives today?
